afterglow

The idea of a song for SUGAR RUSH came to fruition because I wanted a new way to experience my book. I already commissioned Tonya and Lorin to get the imagery I wanted, but then I wanted to encompass my mind. I wanted to hear the vibrations of the book. I wanted to be able to present my collection of poems as a body of work. The book is the mind and soul, Tonya’s and Lorin’s work are the eyes, and it only made sense to add a mouth.

I have known Jay for quite some time; however, we have never actually met in person. Before "COVID-19 learning" was a thing, we took classes online through Florida Virtual School. I do not recall if we ever had any courses “together,” but I do remember how we met! Jay and I had become involved in an online "Fine Arts Committee.” This is where I also met SUGAR RUSH's illustrator, Elizabeth (funny how things work out). This was about seven years ago, and we have kept in touch since.

Jay has a brilliant voice. It is very unique to her: it is a subtly that the music industry needs more of. I am so incredibly honored that she agreed to write and record a single for my project. The song is beautifully crafted and fits the book vibe down to the spine.

It is available to pre-save on Spotify now. Enjoy.

& Jay, thank you.
